Sky Notes: Astro insights for the week of May 19, 2025

The Sun spotlights Uranus in Taurus on the heels of Gemini season

I didn’t intend to have a newsletter hiatus over the past few weeks, but I’m tuning back in with more focus and direction. There are some exciting things happening in the sky this week — we enter Gemini season on Tuesday and Saturn enters Aries this weekend, a transit astrologers have had their eyes on for a while. This marks a significant shift in energy as it meets up with Neptune which moved into Aries at the end of March — I wrote a little about that here. A new reality is being built and it’s a time when the ego may be on overdrive. However, I think many of us are entering into this new era after a long and arduous process of refining ourselves and our vision for how to show up in the world authentically.

Leading up to Gemini season, this past weekend the planet Uranus aligned with the Sun in the sign of Taurus. The Uranus archetype is about a change in direction and setting ourselves apart from others. Archetypal energies can show up at our doorstep in one of two ways — either through an outside event happening to us, or an inner change from within us which we then carry out into the world. The latter is the one we’re obviously the most in control of. Going about my day, I may have a stroke of insight that seemingly comes out of nowhere and guides me toward my next move. It’s that sudden “a-ha!” that provides clarity or a disturbance to the norm. That’s an example of the Uranus archetype at play psychologically. Out in the world, it can be a breakthrough discovery or news that affects us collectively.

Focusing on the inner landscape of our lives, Uranus transiting through the sign of Taurus since 2018 has had us each experiencing a continuous period of change and disruption through a relatively stable area of life. The sign of Taurus deals with the idea of sustainability and feeling grounded by the sense that some part of us clings to a consistent way of experiencing something. In a lot of cases, this is material and sensory — money, possessions, or earthly delights like food and being out in nature. But in many ways, this Taurean consistency and comfort can be a lot more subtle, such as communication habits or a longterm dream you’d like to achieve.

At first I couldn’t see how this was playing out in my life because the sign of Taurus isn’t activated by a planet for me, meaning it’s not a prominent energy at play in my life. But the archetype still lives within me and I was able to put my finger on it. Taurus occupies the 3rd house in my natal chart which relates to communication, thinking, and sensory perception. Narrowing in on the communication part of that, I realized that I have been undergoing a transformation with the modalities in which I communicate. Here’s the gist of it: I started as primarily a graphic designer and photographer, creating and communicating through those two modalities. But as the years went on, writing was slowly being integrated into what I do. I started to have communications and social media roles and began doing some writing with my photography for publications. I did projects where I was interviewing artists and creators about their practices. Now I’ve arrived at a place where writing is becoming more of what I want to focus on instead of it playing a supporting role to my other work. The tables have turned. In this case, Uranus transiting through Taurus has looked like change happening consistently over time, a merging of these two archetypes. But Uranus itself isn’t necessarily about slow growth like Saturn is. It’s more about showing up unexpectedly and then going along for the ride.

It’s all leading you somewhere

The thing is, Uranus wants us to individuate from the rest of society. Its purpose is to get that unique part of yourself out from the shadows. Whether it happens through a sudden and profound event or from a place within, it’s serving a powerful evolutionary purpose in you. In this case, Taurus energy is resistant to change. Why would any of us want to change what’s working? Well, it’s most likely outdated and you’re being prepared for the next phase of life, even if you don’t consciously see it.

Now ask yourself, what has changed for you over the past 8 years throughout a series of events? Has this change been in the spotlight these past few days? Some of us may instead need to ask What changes have I been resisting? The way I interpret this for myself with my personal example is that maybe, just maybe, I need to take writing seriously. Maybe it’s part of my path and it took me a while to get here with intention. I know that I’ve always had this hidden desire to write since I was much younger, but it just never really manifested in my life too concretely because I felt naturally “better” at other things. Uranus is leaving Taurus and moving into Gemini this July, so it’s wrapping up this chapter and trying to get us to see something important about differentiating ourselves from an old way of doing things. Where has it taken you?

Gemini season and the need to be discerning

The Uranus transit has been supported by its trine to the south node in Virgo, which is about removing excess and getting detailed about what’s next. This long road of change is now expanding into its next phase in which we’re going to be seeking out knowledge and information to feed our new ideas. If we are replacing an old way of doing things with something new, we need to input new data into our systems. But here is where things are quickly going to blow out of proportion — we live in this age of abundant information and knowledge that’s accessible 24/7 at our fingertips. It’s overwhelming and distracting, hence a need for discernment in what we consume like never before.

I have all but removed myself from social media platforms that have endless scrolling feeds. I have become acutely aware that I have to narrow in on the quality of information I’m taking in. I mostly stopped listening to certain astrologers that I had been following for many years because they don’t align with my vision anymore. Overall I’m experiencing a reworking of where I get my information from and an intentional slowing down of the sensory experience of learning (less watching videos and more reading books).

What’s important right now is for you to try new things. Read, watch, or listen to something new and/or share any new ideas you have with others. It’s a time to embrace a healthy exchange with others, but be wary of overthinking or trying to know it all about what to do next. Be flexible and go with the flow, while trying to remove some noise and find a pocket of peace.

The last thing I want to add is that the Sun entering Gemini will sextile Saturn in Pisces. To me, this is asking us to lean into all that we’ve learned about selfless love, sacrifice, and the spiritual needs of society as a whole right now. It’s also asking you to trust your intuition, as it’s been sharpened immensely over the past few months. You know where you need to go and now it’s time to make it happen.

Have a great week, ~Ry
